With lots of mixed media out at the moment it’s easy to get confused as to what you should and shouldn’t be eating and in what quantities and when! There’s lots of good information out there but there’s also lots of rubbish, so how do you know what to go for and what’s good for you?
As part of a one-to-one nutrition session, my aim is to teach you how to recognize good food and bad food for you, and also give you the information so you can know for yourself whether the media is giving out worth wile advice or not.
Whether you are trying to lose weight, gain weight, stay at the same weight or just trying to be healthier with your food choices I can help and give you the information and advice to reach your goals.
A one-to-one nutrition session would begin with an initial session which lasts about an hour. This gives me the chance to discuss with you your current eating habits and your current knowledge, your previous eating habits and any diets you have tried in the past and also your goals.
We’d also take your weight as a starting off point but discuss how other goals are important to with nutrition, not just your weight. For example, we might go for a goal to drop a dress size, or to loose a few inches from your waist. Muscle is 3 times heavier than fat and, because I will encourage exercise as well as healthy eating, your weight could go up, even though you have dropped a dress size because you have gained muscle! This is often something that people find hard to believe and so we will look at the psychology of eating and beliefs that go with weight as well if necessary.
Once we have had an initial session, you will be asked to fill in a food diary for a week, and then we will meet up again, discuss the food diary and make one significant change. Every session after the initial one will last about half an hour. You will then have a week or 2 weeks, depending on our decision, to try and make this change, before we meet again. All in all we will make 3 significant changes to your diet in the areas you are struggling with the most. To see effects you need to stick to these changes, and by doing them one by one you have the best chance of doing this.
Once we have made these 3 changes, we will meet every 2-3 weeks to discuss how the changes are going and if there are any other changes we could make. In these sessions, I will try and give you more broader information and try and get you to recognize the changes you need to make yourself, rather than me just telling you. Because of this you will feel you have more control over your eating and are more likely to stick to your new healthy diet plan!
I will then be there to support you whenever it is needed until you feel these changes have become habit and that is the way you will stay without having to try to hard. For some people this will be a quick process, for others, especially those who have yo-yo dieted over the years, it might be harder and take longer. But I will be there to support you and give you the information for you to make decisions yourself.
