The majority of people who are active will know the benefits of doing sport and exercise, but what happens when we become injured? It can be frustrating and depressing that you can’t exercise but sports massage can help recover the injury and stop it happening again.

A sports massage session can involve massaging the injured area and around the area and also giving advice on stretching and strengthening exercises to help heal the injury. It also includes giving advice on other exercises and sport that you could be doing that would keep your fitness going and help aid the healing process of the injury.

Depending on how extreme the injury is, sports massage sessions could be the odd one or two just to aid recovery or it could be a course over a few months to get the area back to the working state it was in before the injury.

Sports people and athletes don't have to have an injury to benefit from a sports massage. Many active people use massage as part of their training, to aid their rest days and promote recovery.

Often sports and exercise can lead to tight muscles and again sports massage can help this. If we take a cyclist for example, being down in a bent over position on the saddle can cause tight hips and quadriceps and can lead to lower back pain. A sports massage session using massage and stretching into the hips and quads and exercises given to strengthen the back and back side can help this muscle imbalance and stop further injuries occurring.
